Robots used to manufacture tissue arrays
In conjunction with Oridis Biomed, Biegler has developed a robot, which
makes it possible to arrange several hundred different tissue samples
as a tissue array. With this method, changes in protein composition of
up to 500 tissue samples can be analyzed in one step based on antibody
reactions. This form of analysis is used in particular to show the
specificity and disease relevance of de-regulated genetic products. As
is the case with DNA arrays, the use of tissue arrays drastically
increases analytic capacity and efficiency compared to traditional
analysis methods. It is now possible to perform analyses in a matter of
days that used to take years to complete. Miniaturization of the
analysis setup also significantly reduces the amount of tissue required
compared to traditional methods, allowing the creation of multiple
arrays from one tissue sample. This method gives scientists greater
access to tissue samples of specific diseases. The samples are an
essential but limited resource in biomedical genetic research.
